IT’S NATIONAL SQUIRREL AWARENESS MONTH – CUTE, BUT THEY’RE NOT YOUR FRIEND

The nation are divided in their thoughts on squirrels, some think “how cute are these little fellows” whilst the rest are screaming “you disrespectful vermin”.

People who have encountered squirrels in and around their property know the damage and destruction they can cause.

GETTING IN

Squirrels are expert acrobats, climbing sheer surfaces, shimmering across beams and even cables to get to their destination.

These leaping acrobats don’t care about breaking and entering into your property to seek food, water and shelter.

They’ll find the smallest of openings, normally entering premises through damaged roofs, vents and openings of chimneys. If there are no openings through damage to the property, you would like to think they would just move on, but no, these pesky pests will create damage to the property to gain entry by chewing/ scratching through any material.

Squirrels don’t really have much going for them, as not only do they break into your property, steal your food, lodge for free and damage your property they will also bring fleas, other diseases and invite other pests to join the party in your property.

GETTING COSY

You may think this is the end of your inconvenience after the damage they caused to get in, but it hasn’t ended, it’s just the beginning. The damage is about to get a whole lot worse. These squirrels are relentless, they will grab chunks of anything to create their nest causing damage to:

  • Electrical failure, as they gnaw through cables
  • Structural damage, as they scratch up wood/walls and pull wiring out of the walls
  • Damage installation and any materials
